Scientific Core Conditioning    what's this?

Scientific Core Conditioning is the most comprehensive, in-depth course available on this subject. This course builds upon the framework of the hugely popular Scientific Abdominal Training, with many new sections, assessment techniques and exercises. Expand your knowledge of the abdominal musculature and its biomechanical relationship to the entire kinetic chain, when applied to the prevention of back pain, maintenance of good posture and optimal sports performance.

• Functional anatomy

• Why tongue position is crucial

• Support mechanisms provided by the abdominals

• How faulty abdominal training can create postural problems

• How to assess core function

• Why coordination and strength tests are essential

• How to re-establish activation of the abdominal wall after abdominal surgery such as caesarean section, hysterectomy and hernia repair, or in the de-conditioned client

Exercises suitable for the post-rehabilitation patient all the way to performance enhancing techniques for elite athletes.  This advanced programme will streamline and empower your current approach to abdominal exercise prescription. It is a must for any professional involved in orthopedic rehabilitation, strength and conditioning coaches, personal trainers, fitness instructors and athletic trainers.

Information on our courses & Functional Exercise

What is Functional Exercise?

Functional: designed for or adapted to a particular purpose. (ref: The American Heritage Dictionary, third edition, 1994). Today there are trainers, therapists, chiropractors and doctors all claiming to provide or prescribe functional exercise. The question is, are these programmes actually living up to the meaning of the term functional with regard to exercise prescription, or are they riding yet another fad?

Characteristics of Functional Exercise

1 Comparable reflex profile (righting and equilibrium reflexes)

Vladimir Janda stated that increasing and individuals reflex response by 50% could reduce the chances of orthopaedic injury by up to 80%. It is important to consider which is the dominant reflex profile in your clients activities. In sports that require both reactions together, such as surfing or motor cross, you must determine which aspect is more challenging for your client.

2 Maintenance of your centre of gravity over your own base of support (Static and Dynamic posture)

With any exercise that does not require you to maintain your centre of gravity over your own base of support, you are not learning the necessary skill to apply force while controlling your own centre of gravity.

3 Generalised motor programme compatibility

Exercise are most functional when they closely resemble a movement pattern that is commonly used in the clients work or sport environment. The further one deviates from a pattern that has the same, or very similar general characteristics or relative timing, the less the exercise is to be helpful.

4 Open/closed chain compatibility

To make the best of your training time, choose exercises that resemble the environment of application with regard to open and closed chain principles.

5 Improves relevant bio motor abilities

Choose exercises that have optimum biomotor profiles for developing movement patterns required by your client.

6 Isolation to integration

If you are going to isolate, you must then integrate Most exercises can be functional at some point in a spectrum of rehabilitations. Part of the art, science and the skill of being a good conditioning re rehabilitation professional is knowing how to apply the appropriate exercises to progress the client for optimal results.
