CHEK Exercise Coach
The CHEK Exercise Coach certification is open
to all, including those new to the fitness profession. We do recommend that you
have some knowledge of anatomy, physiology and exercise. A list of preparatory
resources is available from the Institute.
Prerequisite Courses
Three C.H.E.K Institute courses provide the framework upon which the CHEK
Exercise Coach programme is built. It is essential that you have completed these
either as a live seminar or as a correspondence course before attending the
certification. These courses are:
-
Scientific Core Conditioning
(£219.95):
The most comprehensive programme on conditioning the abdominal musculature.
- How to re-establish activation of the
abdominal wall
- Why a thorough understanding of
functional anatomy is at the heart of assessment and programme design
- Why core coordination and strength tests
are essential
-
Scientific Back Training
(£204.95):
An essential tool to maintain a healthy back and reduce the risk of back
injury both in and out of the gym.
- How to perform lower extremity
range-of-motion assessments
- How the functional anatomy of the torso
and extremities relate to improved spinal health
- Proper exercise technique and exercise
modifications.
-
Programme Design (£144.95):
This course brings together the wisdom of four experts in strength,
conditioning and rehabilitation; Paul Chek, Coach Charles Poliquin, Coach Kim
Goss and Jerry Telle.
- How to select optimal rep and intensity
zones
- How to calculate repetition and intensity
correlations
- Understand the science and application of
tempo
- Understand basic periodisation concepts.
Note: The correspondence courses include videos, a manual and a test that
must be completed and returned to the C.H.E.K Institute in order to receive
a certificate of completion and any CECs or CEUs. Seminar attendees receive
a certificate of attendance at the end of each seminar.
Examination Procedure
Practical Portion: Upon registering, you will
be given a list of exercises and assessments you must master prior to finishing
the course. The C.H.E.K Faculty will perform a continuous assessment of these
during the course, to ensure you have met all the criteria and that you are
confident with all of the material.
Written Portion: During the course you will be given 3 case histories to
complete. You must pass each case history. At the end of the course, you will be
given a written exam that must be completed within 45 days after the
course ends.
